Terms of Service
Effective 2026-06-09
1. Who's who
"beam485" (beam485.com) is a service operated by
Defensible Logic, Inc. ("we", "us"). By using beam485 you ("you") agree to these terms. If
you don't, don't use the service.
2. What beam485 does
beam485 relays serial ports over the internet. You connect a port — from a Chromium browser over WebSerial, or from a headless agent/daemon — and beam485 makes its byte stream available over a shareable link, so other people (or programs) can watch the stream and, with permission, type back to it. Arbitration ensures exactly one writer at a time.
3. Accounts
Some uses work without an account (open a port in your browser, share a watch link). Owning and managing a device — claiming it, minting revocable drive links and source secrets, controlling recording — requires you to register with a valid email address. You're responsible for keeping your login, drive links, and source secrets confidential.
We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violations of these terms or applicable law, or if we reasonably believe your use threatens the integrity, security, or availability of the service or other users.
4. Recording & authorization to relay
These two points are specific to beam485 and important:
- Sessions are recorded by default. By using beam485 you acknowledge that the serial traffic of a session — in both directions — is recorded, that a visible indicator shows this to all participants, and that the device's owner controls whether recording is on and can delete the recordings. See the Privacy Policy.
- You must be authorized to relay the bus. When you connect a serial port or bus to beam485, you represent that you own it or are authorized to access, relay, and record its traffic, and that doing so — and sharing access with anyone you give a link to — does not violate any law, contract, or third party's rights.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use beam485 to:
- connect, tap, interpose on, or transmit onto any serial bus or device you do not own or are not authorized to access — including using beam485 as an unauthorized remote tap or man-in-the-middle on someone else's equipment;
- access, exfiltrate from, or interfere with systems, networks, or data you don't control or aren't authorized to test;
- store, serve, or distribute content that is illegal in the jurisdiction where we operate or where you or your users reside — including child sexual abuse material, content that infringes copyright or trademark, and content that incites violence;
- use the service as a relay or proxy to conceal the origin of malicious traffic, or as command-and-control infrastructure;
- attempt to access other users' devices, sessions, recordings, or account data;
- circumvent the rate limits or other restrictions enforced by the service;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of any non-public component of beam485.
5a. Reporting abuse
Suspect a device or session is being used in violation of section 5 — an unauthorized tap on equipment, exfiltration from a network you administer, illegal content, or other abuse? Email abuse@beam485.com with the device name, source IP if known, timestamp (UTC), and a brief description.
We aim to acknowledge reports within one business day and act on credible reports promptly — terminating active sessions, revoking the offending account, and preserving relevant logs for law-enforcement requests. We don't publish reporters' details. Bad-faith false reports may themselves violate section 5.
6. Data handling
What we record and how long we keep it — including session recordings and their retention and deletion — is described in our Privacy Policy.
7. Service availability
We aim for continuous availability but offer no specific SLA. Service may be interrupted for maintenance, upgrades, or causes outside our control. Recordings are stored on a single host; keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
8. Limitation of liability
beam485 is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Defensible Logic, Inc. and its affiliates are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability in connection with your use of the service, for any and all claims, is limited to the amount you have paid us for the service in the twelve months preceding the claim, or USD 50, whichever is greater.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced via the email address on your account at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming.
